I was in
marleybone today, waiting in a café for my good good friend Whitney. A summer downpour came out of the blue and bettered the street
outside in true English summer flash flood fashion. I love summer rain. The light catches it as it bounces back off
the road. It’s like tinsel and who should walk past umbrella in hand but the
writer Ian McEwan. What is wonderful
about this is that Marleybone is the setting for his brilliant brilliant book
Saturday which is the story of one day in the life of a Neurosurgeon who lives
in Marleybone. The entire area is in the book,
Post Office Tower. For a second I glimpsed the main character of the book
walking to the next part of its story. A surreal moment.
