Dear Lemn, I just felt compelled to say something in response to seeing your Ted talk today for the first time. I find what you had to say incredibly touching and courageous – I related to many things and although I did not share your experiences of being orphaned or being a child of the state, I did relate to some of the feelings you described. Being from a dysfunctional family can leave you feeling quite lost too, without a true sense of identity, in search of yourself in all of it. I also turned to art to find myself in the world and to express the things that I felt. I admire you greatly and felt really touched to hear you talk about your life so eloquently and poetically. I love the beauty and resilience of the human spirit, those of us who can grow despite and shine despite. As the baby tree who blows in the wind and grows stronger. I think you are wonderful and I will look out for your work, I hope to see you perform in the future, best of luck and love
Thank you for the wonderful talk. I was deeply impressed. I hope as many people as possible see the talk and share the message with others. As a small contribution, I’ve posted it to my ‘Language Teaching Professionals’ Facebook page . I don’t think we language teachers can make much difference to the issues you raise, but I think it is important for all teachers to become more deeply aware of these issues because of the influence we have on others.
I pray that your testimony goes forth in the manner God intends. Thank you for submitting your life for the good of all humanity. Your Ted Talk will not only advocate the needs of children of the state, but highlighted how often misinterpretations of intentions and religiosity hinders Gods purposes. I should say try to hinder His purposes. Your life is a testament to His glorious permissive will Lemn. You were born for such a time as this…..I pray that you recognize His Hand and that you like Moses will continue to be used of God to lead the captives free.

Hi mnay thanks. You can find my poems at http://www.lemnsissay.com
I just watched this video.
As a foster parent in the US I see the awfulness of this system on a very constant basis.
I’m so sorry you had to go through what you went through. What happens to many foster children by the government should be criminalized.
I watched the ted talk that you gave and thought that it was very moving. Thank you.
