So much to say about the students teachers and Dr Samina Amin Qadir Vice Chancellor of Pakistan’s first all female university. Fatima Jinnah Women University has been established for only fourteen years. The work written – first draft – in my workshop was astoundingly high quality and yet these students wrote in their second language!
The university is based in what was the presidential palace of Pakistan were Margaret Thatcher stayed when she visited as prime minister. It has a day care centre for the children of students and it’s the only university in Pakistan with its own hospital. It even has its own radio station, Radio VOW, Voice of Women. The brightness, sharp intellect and readiness – not to mention the wit – of the students is a direct reflection of the university, the teachers and their methods. Like any successful educational institution this is the future. Now it is time for me to return to England happy. Support by The British Council.
