This is perfect. Thank you Lemn!
Beautiful. Without faith we rule out a future…whatever the unknowable is we need to expect and anticipate and LIVE! This cheered me immensely. Thank you!
That is a humbling piece of writing, and the artwork is amazing. To be reminded we all began life that way, utterly dependent. Captures too the mystery of it all, growing, discovering and asking why? Has echoes of Ben Okri’s Famished Road and the spirit child Azaro.
What’s also extraordinary to me is that when this was posted on Facebook there was a long litany of people arguing back on forth that this story was in favor of religion. Hardly anyone saw it as anything else. It reminds of the story I heard when people asked Beethoven what a piece of his music meant. Each person had a different idea. He didn’t say they were all wrong but they were all correct. It wasn’t based on science or fantasy, only what they all personally felt at the time. This story may or may not be saying live in the moment. Everyone has different views and the differences should be respected. Say your piece but allow others to argue, but in compassion not aggression.
