Write More.

2017. Notes to self     My motto in life  is  to inspire and be inspired. It’s not simple. Get it wrong and there’s a long way to fall. Only a hypocrite says he  inspires when uninspired himself.   Practically this means I need to read more books – presently reading “My name is Leon” –  – and to see more theatre.  And I need to see more poets too.  I need to be…..  not the expert but the student,  not the “lived experience”  but living life,   not the curated example of authenticity but the action.  And I need to laugh more;  not on stage to an audience but off stage to friends.

I need to feel happiness (rather than speak of happiness):  not through staving off sadness in monologue  but through feeling it in dialogue.   I need to listen in 2017  and to read  and to watch.  These are the foundations of creativity.  Silence is the mother of creativity.   And I need to write. I need to write to the clicking sound of the keyboard. Because then I am alive. I am alive when silence gives to  life.  It is an invisible sound from an unknown  source so definitely definitely alive.   Happy new Year.

      Artists like Artists I read somewhere and I really liked being at Lumbank with you and Hannah and the others ..it was fun
      And unforgettable I’m reading a lot but my creativity is as dead as a do do ( excuse my spelling)

  4. Hi Lemn!
    It’s not always easy but writing helps me too. I tell stories and laugh a lot, often alone and at myself. I try my best and aim for a positive outcome. Whenever I feel a bit feeble I think of my grandparents, De Fredianis, a trapeze act in the 20’s in Amsterdam. They practised in a loft in the heart of the city and performed in variety theatres; it was their hobby. However, they often had terrible rows, and yet on stage there was complete trust between them. In those times there was a dare amongst the acrobats to do the triple turn , the Salto Mortale , without a safety net. My grand mother was the first woman in Europe to achieve that. I’m inspired by that amount of courage and trust and I hope that my story will strengthen you too.

May your 2017 be full to the brim with laughing, loving, reading, balancing the mystery with the magnetism, exploring both the unknown and the known sources of inspiration and trusting those instincts to the max.   8. Yes lemn.!! it’s funny because even when we don’t feel inspired by others we probably are without knowing but touching Base with the wider world of every art form helps so much. I have to read on to find myself somewhere between the mass variety. But I read mourning breaks to my sons who are 7 and 9 and they love it which for their age a long poem i supoose but I think they understand -the journey of it at least.
    ( another favourite of theirs being architecture) anyway suffice to say you inspire us all so thank you .honestly , whenever life seems strange or confusing I know where to go. The black and gold book.( but I do only open it slightly because it’s signed haha – I should get a spare)

  10. Happy New Year pal… If you don’t mind I’ll be stealing much of this (in the spirit of bad artists copy, great artists steal and all that stuff), especially the write more bit. Thank you so much for everything you put out there. It’s probably not always comfortable to wear, but you are huge inspiration for so many reasons. Keep writing it out, chasing the happiness, love and knowledge and when times turn use it for your art which has so many forms of expression. Love and all the best for 2017.

    • I’m always a little disrupted when I hear “stealing” described when most probably you will be influenced. Steal is such a negative term. I hope I know what you mean otherwise some context to the theft would be sought. We both express to our best and it’s good that one spurs the other and so the chain reaction continues..   11. I believe we all should say Happy New Day each morning , because each day is new with possibility of being happy, depending on how we define happiness.
