It’s eighteen days before the first anniversary of Gil Scott-Heron’s passing. In the picture below Jamie Byng and I are on stage discussing his life at A Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron. The night curated by Sarah-Jane Roberts was run by a professionally tight Brighton Festival team. Rare footage of Gil via video, a poem by Salena Godden and covers of Gil’s work by Barry Adamson plus Jamie and I in conversation filled the night with his essence. The photographer of this picture Nigeyb (all rights reserved) didn’t realise what he’d done. His picture accidentally lit the last day of the festival which was also the most important day of Gil’s life.
